The Spectator is PennWest Edinboro’s student-run online newspaper, produced by students under the guidance of a faculty adviser. Its roots trace back to 1935, though Edinboro’s newspaper tradition extends even further to 1865 with the publication of the Normal News, the university’s earliest student newspaper. For generations, student journalists have documented campus life, reported on important issues, and told stories that matter to the university community. Throughout its history, student reporters have covered notable figures including President William Howard Taft and poet Robert Frost. Today, The Spectator continues that legacy by delivering timely news, feature stories, opinion pieces, sports coverage, and multimedia journalism while preparing students for careers in modern media.

“I’ve spent all 4 years here at Edinboro writing for the Spectator. I am grateful I’ve been able to write for a website and paper. I am so glad we have this website back to give students an outlet to publish on and I am grateful to have been an editor for this group.” -Emma McNeeley
